The Compelling Why programming works to increase the number of traditionally under-served students enrolled in academic and life skill enrichment programs in their schools and communities.
Business and community leaders serve as catalysts and role models who drive action during 1/2-day moderated discussions primarily with African American and Hispanic middle and high school “students of promise.” Immediately following these Success Sessions (seminars), students attend an “Opportunity Fair” where they interface directly with representatives from school- and community-based organizations.
In addition to the 1/2-day Success Sessions, select schools are offered optional Leadership Series whereby industry volunteers introduce and lead discussions on the leadership attributes of integrity, commitment, emotional intelligence and collaboration. The Compelling Why believes that a well-rounded education that prepares youth for career success includes these workforce survival skills that are not emphasized in core academic curricula or tested on standardized tests.
